If you are at risk of running out of premix before your new order arrives or the special formula is on back order, you can prepare a simple recipe using the meat you normally would when using the premix. In the short term, this solution will prevent a drastic change in diet for your cat and is suitable for cats with kidney disease, but please note it is not ideal as a permanent staple diet.

RECIPE
- 900 g fresh meat
- 100 g fresh liver (omit if you know your cat will not like this or substitute with 20 g freeze dried liver* )
- 2 raw egg yolk
- shells from two eggs**
- ½ cup of water if using ground meat (for easy-to-eat texture)

* freeze dried liver is readily available these days in most pet stores as dog treats. It usually comes as cubes which can be made into a powder with the use of a designated coffee bean grinder.

**dried in the oven at 200 F for 15 minutes and turned into powder with a clean electric coffee been grinder or with a mortar and pestle, OR blend raw with the yolks in a food blender/food processor. Make sure to omit egg white. Egg white should not be fed raw, because it contains an enzyme that makes Thiamine (a B vitamin) unavailable to your cat.
